Referral care

Why your pet may be referred

Your regular vet may recommend referral care when your pet needs a more detailed diagnostic test, a medical review or a procedure that is not usually performed during a standard consultation.

A clearer diagnosis is needed

Referral testing can help your vet understand what is causing your pet’s signs and what treatment may be suitable.

Your pet needs a specific procedure

Your vet may recommend ultrasound, echocardiography, ECG, Holter monitoring, endoscopy or another referral procedure.

The case is complex or ongoing

Some pets have signs that continue, return or involve several body systems. Referral support can help plan the next step.

Your regular vet wants extra guidance

SAVMR provides findings and recommendations back to your regular vet so they can remain involved in ongoing care.

Collaborative care

SAVMR works with your regular vet

SAVMR does not replace your usual veterinary clinic. Your regular vet remains central to your pet’s care and provides the clinical history, test results and referral reason.

After the appointment, SAVMR shares findings and recommendations with your vet so they can help guide treatment, monitoring and follow-up.

Before the appointment

Your regular vet provides the referral reason and any relevant clinical information.

During the appointment

SAVMR assesses your pet and performs the agreed consultation, test or procedure where appropriate.

After the appointment

Findings and recommendations are shared with your regular vet so ongoing care can continue with their support.
